New President coming to CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group

KentuckyOne Health Saint Joseph became CHI Saint Joseph Health earlier this year. They have also selected a new president for CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group. Who is it? What is their background? Where are they coming from?

On March 6, 2019, CHI Saint Joseph Health announced that Dr. Viren S. Bavishi, DO, has been selected as the new president of CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group.

He comes to Kentucky from Banner Medical Group, an integrated delivery system headquartered in Phoenix, AZ. It spans six states and employs more than 1,200 providers. Most recently, he has served as chief medical officer where he helped strengthen the relationship between physicians and administration.

“Bavishi has an impressive background to lead our medical group,” said Bruce Tassin, CEO, CHI Saint Joseph Health, and president, Saint Joseph Hospital. “With nearly 20 years of experience in the clinical and practice management setting, he is a proven leader with a commitment to teamwork, collaboration and transparency in every regard. We are excited that he will
be a part of the CHI Saint Joseph Health family.”

Originally from Illinois, he comes to Kentucky from Phoenix, AZ. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, ILL. He received his DO from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, ILL.

“I am looking forward to leading the medical group and working collaboratively to ensure that we continue to provide high-quality care and a great experience for our patients,” said Dr. Bavishi. “I am impressed with the commitment and legacy of excellence that CHI Saint Joseph Health has brought to the community. I am excited to join this leadership team and can’t wait to put down roots in this wonderful community.”

He first majored in economics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, but changed it to pre-med after taking courses in anatomy and physiology and decided medicine was his true calling.
