Before the buzzer sounded to end the game, eighth-grader Delaney Gash rebounded a missed layup to hit the winning basket. Top-seeded Beaumont Middle edged out #2 Morton Middle 39-37 for the girls’ “A” league basketball championship.
Delaney led the Colts with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Amber Brandon and Bella Rusing also scored 10 points each, and Riley Arnold pulled down 9 points.
“A game full of missed layups, defensive assignments, and free throws, yet we still managed to win – showing great heart and tenacity,” said Beaumont Coach Anthony Wilson. “It was as usual a team effort. Certainly a special group of girls.”
The tournament title capped the Colts’ 13-0 season.
Congratulations to Beaumont Middle on your big victory!
